Eating Disorder Therapy in NYC
If your inner monologue goes something like this, let’s chat
THOUGHTS ON REPEAT
Being thinner will make these feelings go away.
I need to be more disciplined.
That girl looks so much better than me.
I don’t eat pasta. Or sugar or fat or dairy or bread.
I ate a big dinner, I’ll skip breakfast and lunch tomorrow.
My day is ruined because I ate something “bad.”
I need to work out to make up for what I just ate.
Why do I blackout when I’m eating?
I’m just being healthy! It’s just intermittent fasting! I’m just vegan!
How fast is everyone else at the table eating?
I’m just gonna cut up my food
so no one notices I didn’t
eat any of it.This is the evidence that I’m bad. Or crazy. Or fucked up.
MY APPROACH TO THERAPY FOR EATING DISORDERS
I get it because I’ve been there. I understand that it’s not just about food and weight, it’s about the everything else. We’ve learned to rely on these patterns because they’re comforting and familiar, yet they leave us with overwhelming anxiety, perfectionism, secrecy, isolation, shame, and fear.
I know how all consuming the eating disorder part can be— it feels like it’s telling the truth, like it’s trying to protect you, and like it’s the voice of reason. The grounded part can feel like its miles away, like it is so quiet we don’t even know if it’s even there.
In our work together, we will identify the critical, eating disorder part of you, and get back in touch with the grounded, compassionate, effervescent part of you.
There is so much joy and connection waiting for you on the other side.
